Orange: The Achiever Self

Orange is a self focused (I) level of development, centred around achievement, success, and individual progress. It is estimated to represent around 30% of the population, and is strongly reflected in modern, performance-driven societies.
At this level, thinking becomes more strategic and goal oriented. There is a focus on results, efficiency, and measurable success, often expressed through career, wealth, or personal accomplishment. Science, technology, and innovation are valued, as they provide tools to improve outcomes and expand possibilities.
What defines Orange is its drive to improve and achieve. Individuals seek autonomy and are motivated by the opportunity to succeed through their own efforts. Competition becomes a way of measuring progress, and success is often defined by external markers.
The underlying motivation at this level is to win and advance. It is about creating a better life through effort, strategy, and achievement, with a belief that progress comes from pushing forward and improving results.

Green: The Sensitive Self

Green is a collective focused (We) level of development, centred around connection, equality, and shared experience. It is estimated to represent around 10% of the population, and often emerges as a response to the individualism and material focus of earlier levels.
At this level, thinking becomes more inclusive and relational. There is an emphasis on understanding others, valuing different perspectives, and creating environments where people feel heard and supported. Community, collaboration, and emotional awareness become central, and there is often a focus on fairness and shared wellbeing.
What defines Green is its sensitivity to people and relationships. It seeks to reduce division and create harmony, often challenging systems that feel unequal or disconnected from human needs.
The underlying motivation at this level is to connect and care. It is about building relationships, supporting others, and creating a sense of shared humanity where people can feel included and valued.

Yellow: The Integral Self

Yellow is a self focused (I) level of development, although it begins to move beyond the earlier distinction between self and collective. It is estimated to represent around 1% of the population, and marks the transition into a more complex way of thinking.
At this level, thinking becomes more flexible and systemic. There is an ability to recognise and work with multiple perspectives, understanding that each level of the spiral has value depending on the situation. Rather than seeing one way as right, Yellow focuses on what is appropriate and effective in context.
What defines Yellow is its adaptability. It is comfortable with complexity, change, and uncertainty, and is able to move between different ways of thinking without becoming fixed in one.
The underlying motivation at this level is to understand and integrate. It is about seeing the bigger picture, responding to life conditions as they are, and using a broader range of thinking to navigate complexity.

Turquoise: The Holistic Self

Turquoise is a collective focused (We) level of development, centred around wholeness, interconnectedness, and a broader sense of unity. It is estimated to represent around 0.1% of the population, and reflects one of the most complex stages currently understood.
At this level, thinking expands beyond individual systems into a more holistic awareness. There is a recognition that all aspects of life are interconnected, and that actions cannot be separated from their wider impact. This includes not only human systems, but the natural world and broader existence.
What defines Turquoise is its sense of integration at a larger scale. It holds multiple perspectives at once, not to balance them, but to respond in a way that serves the whole.
The underlying motivation at this level is to experience and act from a sense of unity. It is about aligning with the broader system of life, where decisions are guided by what supports the whole rather than any single part.
